    2026 Virtual Classes

I am offering two different virtual classes in 2026! Creative Jumpstart, for folks hoping to jumpstart a creative project, and Playwrights’ Workshop, for playwrights hoping to either start or rewrite a play. See below for details.

Playwrights’ Workshop

Are you ready to write a new play but don’t want to face the blank page alone? Do you have a play that you’re in the process of rewriting but would value some feedback and guidance? Then join me for the Playwrights’ Workshop.

During this 7 week course, up to 6 playwrights will be able to bring in up to 20 pages of work every other week. We’ll read these pages out loud and provide feedback to keep the momentum going. Feedback will be structured and is centered on the playwright and their needs for the play. This is a workshop designed for playwrights to write fast and furious and work on a singular piece, as well as to strengthen and practice providing feedback to others.

Classes will be composed of group check-ins, and sharing and workshopping of pages.

Writers will walk away with:

  • At least 60 pages of their play written or rewritten.

  • Tactics for hitting their writing goals.

  • Artistic confidence.

Creative Jumpstart

Do you feel like you’re in a creative rut? Want to begin a project but aren’t sure where to start? Do you want to stretch your creative muscles? Then Creative Jumpstart is for you!

Over the course of five weeks, I’ll lead you through a series of writing prompts, each designed to get in touch with your creative intuition and hone your inner ear so you can let your heart lead the way into your next writing project. Each exercise builds on the next so you can create a brand new piece or the start of several new things. Whether you want to write a play, a short story, a screenplay, a poem or anything in between - as long as you want to use words to express yourself, this class will give you the tools to create something new and shake up your creative energy.

Classes will be composed of creative discussion, writing exercises and the option to share work at the end of each class.

Writers will walk away with:

  • A deeper understanding of what’s on your mind and how you want to engage creatively.

  • The beginning of a new creative writing project.

  • A toolkit full of new creative exercises to use in your practice.

Here’s what students say:

“I have taken Gina Femia's class three times and each time I completed a new play which I have considered my best work.  Setting out to write a first draft can feel like a frantic search for something you can't remember while sitting in a blank white box. In Gina's class, you will be gently guided to hear your own voice and trust your artistic heart. It is a liberating experience to realize that all the tools you need are right there in your hand.  Gina's gentle magic, rigorously applied, was my portal into my creative self.”

— Monique Giroux

“I really enjoyed taking Gina's playwriting class! I came to the class very concerned about structure, but Gina's exercises and feedback in class helped me get out of my head and trust my own writing process while letting go of trying to get the play "right."  I also enjoyed the various prompts and exercises that helped us get out of our heads. I think Gina is great at noticing strengths in a script and encouraging students to write towards their strengths. They are extremely supportive and create a very welcoming, constructive class environment. I look forward to working with Gina again and consulting them on future scripts and taking another class with them in the future! I find their notes, advice, and anecdotes extremely helpful and their warm energy rare in an industry that is extremely competitive.“

“I had the pleasure of taking a First Draft Playwriting class with Gina in the Fall of 2024. After a long year of creative rejections, I was excited to jump into a class with a writer I admired to work on a play that I wasn't planning on submitting anywhere, something I could work on just for myself. What I received from that class was so much more than I expected. I knew and admired Gina's work prior to the class, but had not anticipated their generosity in the room - offering concise and guiding feedback on our drafts along with conversations around rejection, working as a playwright in 2025, and the emotional reality of being an artist. Every class had a writing exercise unlike any I had experienced before, and I found myself, not only writing a play that was just for me, but doing so (with Gina's support) with immense curiosity and joy. I enjoyed this process so much that I asked to work 1:1 with Gina for dramaturgical feedback on a second draft of a play that I had planned to submit widely. Gina met with me for one hour, and I, unsurprisingly, felt totally artistically cared for the entire session. They gave in depth notes on the structure, the form, and the character arcs and helped catapult the play into its third draft, which got me accepted to an MFA Playwriting program and a summer reading series! I cannot recommend working with Gina more highly. They are a deeply intelligent and kind human who will give you and your plays a boost of confidence and joy.”
